Electrical Panel Upgrades in Brunswick, Maine

Roughly a third of Brunswick's housing was built before 1960, and much of it lines the streets between Maine Street, Federal Street and the Bowdoin campus. Houses from that era were wired for lights, a refrigerator and perhaps a washer, so the original service was often 60 amps feeding a fuse box. Nearly 13 percent are mobile homes, whose service usually comes from a pedestal or pole rather than the house itself, so an upgrade involves that equipment too. In newer neighborhoods toward Cooks Corner, the question is more often whether a 150- or 200-amp panel has spare spaces for a charger and heat pumps, or needs a subpanel.
