Electrical Panel Upgrades in Naples, Maine

Most Naples houses are not old in the way Portland houses are; only about 4 percent predate 1940 and the median build year is 1988. The capacity problem comes from how the homes are now used. Nearly four in ten Naples housing units exist for seasonal use, and plenty of the Long Lake, Brandy Pond and Trickey Pond cottages among them got a 60 or 100 amp service sized for a summer kitchen and a few lights. When a family starts using the place through the fall and winter, adds heat pumps or puts in a modern kitchen, that service is the first thing to give out. One newer rule applies to every full service replacement on a one- or two-family house: the state's Electricians' Examining Board now calls for an emergency disconnect mounted outdoors, no more than 50 feet away and within sight of the building.

Naples leaves electrical permits to the State of Maine, while the town's code office takes the CMP form 1190 when a service change calls for one.
